terms of use

the service

chestnut is a personal envelope budgeting companion for everyday spending. it is available on iphone through the apple app store.

chestnut is not a bank, lender, broker, investment adviser, accountant, or tax preparer. amounts and insights in the app are based on information you enter. always verify important financial decisions independently.

eligibility

you must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live and meet apple's age requirements for in-app purchases. if you are under the age of majority, you may use chestnut only with permission from a parent or guardian who accepts these terms.

your account

you are responsible for your account credentials and activity under your account. tell us promptly at thjis@getchestnut.app if you suspect unauthorized access.

you may sign in using methods we support (such as sign in with apple or google). keeping your device secure is your responsibility.

acceptable use

• use chestnut for lawful personal purposes
• do not attempt to break, reverse engineer, scrape, or overload our systems
• do not misuse other users' data or interfere with the service
• do not use chestnut in a way that violates applicable law or third-party rights

subscriptions and billing

some features require a paid subscription ("chestnut pro" or similar name shown at purchase). all payments are processed by apple through the app store. we do not collect or store your payment card details.

plans we offer

• monthly subscription — auto-renews every one month at the price shown in the app store at the time of purchase
• yearly subscription — includes a 3-day free trial for eligible new subscribers, then auto-renews every one year at the price shown in the app store when you subscribe. if you do not cancel before the trial ends, apple will charge you for the yearly plan

exact prices, currencies, and trial eligibility are displayed on the purchase screen in the app and in app store connect before you confirm. apple determines whether you qualify for an introductory offer.

auto-renewal

subscriptions automatically renew unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. your apple id account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period. you can manage or cancel subscriptions in your device settings: settings → [your name] → subscriptions → chestnut.

free trial

the 3-day free trial applies only to the yearly plan where offered and only if you are eligible under apple's rules. you may cancel during the trial to avoid being charged. unused trial time is forfeited when you purchase a subscription where applicable under apple policy.

restore purchases

if you reinstall chestnut or change devices, use "restore purchases" or subscription management in the app (or apple subscription settings) to restore access tied to your apple id.

refunds and billing disputes

billing, refunds, and cancellations are handled by apple under the app store terms and payment policies. contact apple support for purchase issues. we cannot issue app store refunds directly.

price changes

we may change subscription prices for new purchases. apple will notify you of price changes to existing subscriptions according to apple's rules, and you may accept or cancel before renewal.

privacy

our privacy policy explains what data we collect (including budget data you enter, optional cloud sync, and subscription status) and how we use it. by using chestnut, you consent to that policy.

intellectual property

chestnut, including its design, branding, and software, is owned by us or our licensors. we grant you a limited, personal, non-transferable license to use the app for your own budgeting. you keep ownership of content you enter; you grant us the rights needed to host and process that content to run the service.

disclaimer

the service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. we do not guarantee that chestnut will be error-free, uninterrupted, or meet your financial outcomes.

limitation of liability

to the maximum extent permitted by law, we and our suppliers are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of chestnut. our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of (a) amounts you paid us for the subscription in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) fifty euros (€50), except where liability cannot be limited under applicable law.

termination

you may stop using chestnut at any time. we may suspend or end access if you materially breach these terms or if required for legal or security reasons. sections that by nature should survive (including disclaimers, limitations, and billing obligations already incurred through apple) will survive termination.

changes

we may update these terms. we will post the revised terms on this page with an updated date. material changes may also be communicated in the app where appropriate. continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated terms.
